King Chappa would have had to have won the tournament prior to Goku's first entry: the 20th World Martial Arts Tournament. • Master Roshi (under unknown alias) – When Master Roshi is fighting Goku as 'Jackie Chun', he says he fought Goku's adoptive grandfather and won. While it is possible Roshi and Gohan fought each other on an occasion outside the tournament, it is unlikely Roshi would have used the in a simple sparring match, he might only have used such a devastating attack if he felt he had to win at any cost and the only reason he would feel this way about a pupil he loved might have been if he was trying to help him, as he helped Goku by preventing his victory and keeping his passion alive.

While trying to catch up with the others, Videl is unable to concentrate and Gohan suggests to go back to the tournament and also tell Chi-Chi and Goten of what's going on and Videl agrees as she asks Gohan that he is the golden warrior and Gohan apologizes to Videl for lying to her and Videl learns that Gohan is the true hero who defeated Cell, not her father and Videl tells Gohan to take care and wish him good luck and tells him that she'll be waiting for him back at the tournament as Gohan and Kibito begin to catch up with the others. Anime and Manga differences • In the anime, before the Tournament begins, they show a reenactment of the Cell Games with actors in costumes and using special effects. This does not happen in the manga. • In the manga, Goten and Trunks knock out Mighty Mask and take his costume prior to the scene where Goku and the others have their meal and then meet the mysterious duo. In the anime, the scenes are reversed and they do not take Mighty Masks until after they've met them. Satan being told that his daughter is struggling against Spopovich which he dismissed as her putting on a show for the audience is exclusive to the anime.
However, more than one villain in the manga has entered the tournament with more interest in killing someone against whom they have a vendetta than in winning the prize. This seems to suggest that, while killing in the tournament may get you disqualified, it may still be an affirmative defense to murder, in the eyes of the law. After all, this is the only explanation that makes any sense as to why people such as (who, unlike or, does not appear strong enough to defeat the police) could attempt to murder in front of hundreds of witnesses without fear of going to prison.
