I have an Onkyo RZTX800 (only had it a week or two so still tweaking it!) It’s a THX 7.2.2, wired up accordingly with the heights placed at rear and the amp has been configured to know that array etc. But I played Everest BD and the rear surrounds are silent. The Heights worked and the film sounded phenomenal, (ridiculous sub-sonics across the last 50 mins!) but nothing from the rear surrounds? The Amaze Atmos demo went around all 9.2 speakers in truly wonderful surround, but the movie didn’t touch the rear surrounds.
The setup is: DirecTV+AppleTV+Blu-Ray (HDMIs) > TV > Home Theater (HDMI ARC). I still cannot get Dolby Digital from my DirecTV box.

I am aware of the 'Dolby Pro Logic' trap many people fall into, and it's easy to spot it (left/right surround speakers can't be addressed separately for instance). And I was equally disappointed, trying Toni's test video on my PS4 connected to a Marantz AVR with 5 satellites and one sub, just to hear the sounds only from the front speakers. BUT then I tried Arun's test video 'Surround Sound Test LPCM 5.1 - Demo' - and it works!

The next step was to interleave the six WAVs by converting them into a multichannel WAV. This must be done in the right order: Left Front, Right Front, Centre, LFE, Left Surround, Right Surround. This produced a big uncompressed file of 107MB (all my work is done at 44.1kHz but MP3 Surround will also accept 48kHz). The final step was to drag the multichannel WAV onto the MP3 Surround window and marvel as the file was compressed in seconds, down to an amazing 4.86MB! And that's all there is to it.
