Hold the top of the document mat and slide it down gently along the inside of the cover. Slide the bottom corners of the mat into the slots at the bottom of the cover until they snap into place. The application opens up but if I choose any of the options, it tells me the Twain driver is not installed. I can scan using Windows scan or even the Epson scan program that comes with the Expression 1680 driver that you linked above. I am copying from the above mentioned site. Make sure to follow the steps very carefully. What did work was installiong the x64 driver from Epron for their Epson Expression 1680 Professional scanner instead. I had to force the Device Manager to install and use.inf file for the 1680. Here's how: Download and run the Epron file. Epson Expression 1680 Professional It will extract to here: C: EPSON epson12203_twain_driver_and_epson_scan_utility_304a Then cancel the install process. First, I found a Vista compatible driver for the scanner on the Epson site. Downloaded and installed the driver. No real joy at what came up--- a very poor unusable imitation of the scanner----despite the Epson comments not to use the installation disc that came with the scanner I figured there was nothing to lose. Put in the original CD and went through the install process and it actually worked.
